Music in general was formed to tell a story. The sole purpose of music is to make moods, set tones, and get a point across. The Caverdian song “Tentação” by artist Gama does this with its hip Caverdian Creole beat used for a dance known as “The Pasada”. The dance Pasada originated on the island of Cape Verde, danced as a one, two, one step. They frequently use the music which some call “Zouk”, not to be confused with Haitian Zouk music, due to similarities in beats, and dance.
The song Tentação, meaning temptation in Caverdian Creole has a deep meaning in the beat, and tone in which the music is played. It has a classic Pasada beat for an easy going two step dance. When dancing to this music you usually incorporate the regular two step, and your own flare by adding a sort of grind with the other partner. When the beat drops in the song is when you begin.
Tentação sounds to me like a new meaning to show love. It has a seductive beat which can draw an audience. This type of a song can be appreciated by many even if you don’t understand the lyrics; all you have to do is follow the beat. The beat of the song is not slow but a pace of two finger snaps. By listening in on the sound and changes in rhythm it becomes easy to follow this story line as you hear calm notes being played, it is understood that it is a love song. When beginning the song the ear is drawn to the first solo tone like a fly to a light. It is something which sounds familiar, but new so it’s like falling in love all over again. The base of this song which is the instrumental background is what you hear beginning to end, so it becomes more appreciated.
When this song is played for me all I hear is the beautiful music being played, since its in another language which I don’t speak. I love this song because I get the jist of what it means. Why I like it so much is also because of the mellow beat, and how it flows nicely throughout the song. It really makes a great love song that any one can enjoy by just listening to what is being played. The song features all types of instruments which you can catch like chimes, the piano, drums, and so on. A lot of the sounds were produced through auto tune, a program used to help singers sing better, and make the song better. Overall Tentação is proven to make a great song. The fact that it is produced in another language makes no significant change to the way that the artist is trying to make you feel. All listeners should feel the same way, realizing that it is a captivating love song. The sensual tone of the beat should draw you in and be relaxing, as that is what is expected.
